The remains of a scientist, Doctor of Technical Sciences from Vinnitsa Anatoly Novikov , who disappeared 16 years ago, have been found in Buryatia . This was reported by the Baza publication on its Telegram channel.

In 2009, the Ukrainian arrived in the Russian region for the International Kreindel Seminar on Plasma Emission Electronics. Novikov represented the Vinnytsia National Technical University and was preparing to speak at the event.

However, as was stated in the newspapers at the time, at the time of his disappearance there was no official invitation issued in his name and he was not listed as a participant. It was stated that the Ukrainian citizen had gone for a walk from the Enakhaluk tourist base and disappeared.

The search involved the Ministry of Emergency Situations, representatives of the Baikal Search Squad, water police and dog handlers with dogs. The scientist's daughter also came to Buryatia; the woman tried to find a solution to her father's disappearance, but did not achieve any results.

The search for the professor was officially stopped in 2019. Five years later, a local Lama, walking in the forest near the village of Novy Enkhaluk, noticed human bones and contacted the police. Next to the remains was a phone, the IMEI of which completely matched the IMEI of Novikov's phone. In addition, next to the body were dentures and several Ukrainian coins.

It was previously reported that the remains were found at a construction site of St. Petersburg University (SPbSU) on Vasilievsky Island.
