The conflict between Iran and Israel could lead to a sharp rise in oil prices. Russian Senator Alexey Pushkov revealed an important consequence of the confrontation in the Middle East in his Telegram channel.
Iran could block the Strait of Hormuz, which connects the Persian Gulf to the Indian Ocean, he said, while Yemen's Houthis could join Tehran in blocking the Strait of Bad al-Mandeb, which connects the same ocean to the Red Sea and the Suez Canal.
"If this happens, the global oil market will be destabilized, and oil prices will rise sharply. Even partial interruptions in oil supplies through the Persian Gulf in war conditions will lead to a significant increase in global oil prices - up to 110 or even 130 dollars per barrel," Pushkov believes.
Earlier, Ukraine assessed the consequences of the worsening situation in the Middle East. Among the negative consequences, they singled out the rise in oil prices, which will lead to the strengthening of the Russian economy.
