US President Donald Trump intends to call for a "thorough investigation" into possible payments by former US Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris to celebrities supporting her in the November elections. He stated this on his social network TruthSocial.
"How much did Kamala Harris pay [musician] Bruce Springsteen to perform poorly during her presidential campaign? Why did he accept it if he was such a fan?" Trump wrote, also mentioning singer Beyoncé, TV host Oprah Winfrey and musician Bono.
Trump doubted that such expenses are not a large illegal contribution to the election campaign. The US President reminded that candidates are prohibited from paying for support. In his opinion, Harris did exactly that under the guise of paying for entertainment. Trump also considers such a move a "very expensive and desperate" attempt to artificially increase the number of his supporters.
In October 2024, Beyoncé supported Harris at her abortion rights rally. The singer took the stage in Texas, the first state in the country to impose a near-total ban on abortion. Harris then blamed Trump and Republicans for a “health care crisis.” Last September, Oprah Winfrey hosted a “Unite for America” event with the activist group Win with Black Women to register people to vote and support Harris in Pennsylvania, Georgia, and Michigan.
On April 10, The New York Times (NYT), citing sources, wrote that Harris intends to run for governor of California in 2026.
