Indian Prime Minister Narender Modi inaugurated the Chenab Railway Bridge, which connects the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country. He announced this on the social network X .
"We are extremely proud that this bridge is a seamless blend of ambition and execution that reflects India's ability to build futuristic infrastructure in the most challenging of conditions," Modi said.
He said the new bridge project would significantly improve connectivity between Jammu and Srinagar , which would have a positive impact on trade and tourism. The bridge, 1.3 kilometres long and located at an altitude of 359 metres above sea level, is the highest in the world.
In July last year, it was reported that the highest tunnel in the world would be built in the Landakh region of northern India. The structure will be located at an altitude of 4.8 thousand meters. The Shinkun La tunnel project consists of two branches 4.1 kilometers long. The bridge will be built on the Nimmu-Padum-Darcha road and will provide continuous communication with the city of Leh. It is noted that the tunnel will contribute to the development of the Ladakh region.
