The Supreme Court of the Russian Federation upheld the right of citizens to use bladed weapons in self-defense in the event of a group attack, especially when children are at risk. This decision was a response to the high-profile case of a Tver resident who defended his family from three aggressively minded men. This was reported by RIA Novosti .
The incident occurred during a family celebration, when drunken attackers with wooden sticks burst into the private territory and began beating those present. The owner of the house, who was holding his little daughter in his arms, used a knife to defend himself, as a result of which the attackers died.
The man was initially charged with murder, but the trial court found his actions to be self-defense. The Supreme Court, after reviewing an appeal by the victims' relatives, upheld this decision, emphasizing that the suddenness and aggressiveness of the attack, the numerical superiority of the attackers, and the threat to the child's life fully justified the use of weapons for self-defense.
This case has been included in judicial practice as a precedent that will now serve as a guide for similar cases. This means that in similar circumstances - a sudden group attack with the use of weapons and a threat to life - the courts must recognize the legality of self-defense even with the use of bladed weapons.
Earlier it was reported that the head of the Central Bank Elvira Nabiullina identified the main risks for the Russian economy.
