The Eta Aquarids meteor shower (or May Aquarids) will reach its peak activity on the night of Monday to Tuesday, May 6. This was reported by TASS with reference to the Moscow Planetarium.
Experts note that in clear weather, observers will be able to see bright and fast meteors leaving long trails across the night sky.
“The best time for observation is the pre-dawn hours from 2:00 to 4:00 Moscow time, away from light pollution from cities,” astronomers recommend.
In mid-latitudes, meteor showers will be visible low above the southeastern horizon, but the shower will be most pronounced in the Southern Hemisphere.
Eta Aquarids are fast meteors that enter the Earth's atmosphere at 41 miles per second. They are white in color and often leave visible trails behind as dust particles burn up in the atmosphere. The name of this meteor shower comes from the constellation Aquarius, where the meteors "emerge" from.
