According to the MiraNews portal, the Azov-Black Sea branch of VNIRO (AzNIIRKH) is actively preparing for a large-scale research expedition, the purpose of which is to study the Azov ecosystem and its biological resources.
The start of the research is planned for the end of May, the period of active reproduction of valuable commercial fish, such as sprat, turbot and mullet. Scientists will conduct work from the research vessel "Oleg Betin", collecting information on the state of the populations of the main species, which will allow them to predict changes in the future.
The program includes comprehensive studies of ichthyoplankton and zooplankton, as well as hydrological observations. Parameters such as salinity, temperature and transparency of water will be analyzed, sea currents, fish food supply and seasonal climate fluctuations will be studied. The results of the expedition will allow experts to form an accurate picture of the state of the marine ecosystem and develop recommendations for the rational use of bioresources.
The greatest attention will be paid to the coastal areas of the northern Azov region, and research will cover the entire water area of the Azov Sea.
