This is how Americans will track chips. The end of illegal smuggling to China

The US administration intends to actively counteract the smuggling of technologically advanced chips produced by, among others, Nvidia to China.

A law is being prepared to verify the location of integrated circuits from the moment they are sold. The tracking of chips is intended to verify that they are permitted for use under the license and to prevent the launch of these chips without the manufacturer's consent .

Chip smuggling is not an imaginary problem of the future. It's a problem that's already happening, and at some point we'll find that the Chinese Communist Party or its military is already designing weapons using chips, says Illinois Democratic Congressman Bill Foster

In the current political situation, as Reuters reports, it is important that Republicans and Democrats are working together to develop a position on China's use of American technologies.

The proposed solution for localizing integrated circuits would be based on communication between the chips and a secured computer server.

Based on the time it takes for the signal to reach the server, the place where the device equipped with elements of American technology is operating would be verified.

The Bureau of Industry and Security is supposed to handle this as a control unit of the US Department of Commerce. However, many experts emphasize that currently there is no technical capacity for such precise action.

It is also necessary to specially mark those chips that should potentially be prioritized for verification when they leave the US.

A few weeks ago, three people were detained in Singapore for illegally re-exporting Nvidia chips to Chinese recipients .
