In Sochi's Riviera Park, the rector of the Russian International Ice Hockey University and the honorary president of the International Ice Hockey Federation planted an evergreen magnolia

One of the resort's symbols, an evergreen magnolia, was planted in Sochi's Riviera Park. The event was held as part of an environmental campaign during the international conference "Sports Events: Generation of Social Effects."

The magnolias were planted by the rector of the RIOU Lev Belousov, the honorary president of the International Hockey Federation Rene Fasel, and volunteers. The tree will grow on the Friendship Glade, on the central alley. Previously, 106 magnolias were planted here by astronauts, public figures, athletes, and politicians.

“Planting a tree named after me in the famous Polyana Druzhby is a great honor for me personally,” Lev Belousov emphasized.

Ten years ago, as Rene Fasel recalled, he took part in planting magnolias on this same alley. At that time, the event was timed to coincide with the anniversary of the Winter Olympics in Sochi.

“It’s a joy to see that my tree is growing taller every year,” said René Fasel.

It is worth noting that the conference was held in Sochi for the fifth time. Its participants included sports functionaries from 26 regions of the Russian Federation and 35 countries of the world.
