Arrest warrants issued for İmamoğlu, Özkan and Yanardağ in espionage investigation

An investigation launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was suspended from his post as Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor after his arrest as part of a corruption investigation, as well as Necati Özkan, Merdan Yanardağ and Melih Geçek, for "espionage" is ongoing.

As part of the investigation, the interrogations of İmamoğlu, Özkan and Yanardağ at the criminal court of peace have been completed.

The judge ruled that İmamoğlu, Özkan and Yanardağ be arrested on charges of "political espionage."

It was learned that Hüseyin Gün, in his request to benefit from effective repentance provisions, gave detailed testimony to the police and prosecutor's office about the criminal organization of which Ekrem İmamoğlu is alleged to be the ringleader and his espionage connections.

Melih Geçek, who gave his statement during the investigation, was sent to the prison where they were held because they were detained for another crime.
