Italy's statement on military deployment to Ukraine: It should be within the UN

Tajani made a statement in the lower house of parliament, the House of Representatives, regarding the idea of sending troops from Europe to Ukraine and establishing buffer zones, which have been on the agenda in recent days.
Tajani, who stated that he did not think it would be beneficial to send European or NATO troops to Ukraine, said, "If a buffer zone is to be created, troops should be sent here under the UN flag."
Tajani stressed that such a force should be affiliated with the UN so that it would be neutral.
Meanwhile, government sources speaking to the Italian ANSA agency reportedly said that the idea of sending Italian troops to Ukraine as part of a peacekeeping mission is not currently on the agenda.
Giovanbattista Fazzolari, the undersecretary responsible for the implementation of the government program, also stated in an event he attended that this issue had never been discussed within the government, adding that this idea had been supported by France for a long time, but Italy did not see it as an effective solution.
The far-right League Party, the junior partner of the right-wing coalition government, said it was against sending Italian troops to Ukraine.
