CHP Chairman Özgür Özel visited CHP presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu, Adana Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Zeydan Karalar , outgoing Şişli Mayor Resul Emrah Şahan, and Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat . Özel made a statement following the visit.
He stated that the case against Adana Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Zeydan Karalar should be released immediately. Özel, who also reiterated his demands for a trial without detention, said, "If Ekrem İmamoğlu escaped, Tayyip Bey would be the happiest person; he would be freed. If there were any suspicion of İmamoğlu's escape, Tayyip Bey would have people pouring out their loaves of bread in the Palace garden." Özel continued, "Will the Adana Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and the prosecutors in Adana be unable to dispense justice? Mr. Akın knows too much, he brings it here from Adana, cursing the people in Adana." Regarding the commission to be established in Parliament, Özel commented, "Democracy in Diyarbakır, autocracy in Istanbul."
Özel continued: “Like Izmir and Ankara, fulfill your duties in accordance with reason, conscience, and the law. Hold a trial without detention and issue an indictment as soon as possible. Let TRT, who hasn't come, come and broadcast it all live. Let the slander be heard, and let the response be heard. Zeydan Karalar's case be sent to his province and heard there. It's essential that everyone be tried without detention. However, it's not true that we stipulated Ekrem's trial without detention as a condition for the commission to be established in parliament. The idea of establishing a commission in parliament belongs to us. This commission has a responsibility to democratize. Democracy in Diyarbakır, autocracy in Istanbul.” News Center
