Ministry of National Defence announces: Memorandum of Understanding signed for Eurofighter Typhoon

Minister Yaşar Güler and UK Defense Secretary John Healey met at the International Defense Industry Fair 2025. The Ministry of National Defense released a written statement regarding the meeting, stating:
The Defence Ministers of the Republic of Turkey and the United Kingdom welcomed the opportunity to meet today at the 17th International Defence Industry Fair in Istanbul, reaffirmed the strength of the Turkish-United Kingdom partnership, and emphasized the importance of the two countries' long-standing defence cooperation, including cooperation through NATO, and their growing ties in the defence industry and security fields. Both Ministers committed to deepening this strategic partnership to support the Alliance's shared deterrent. The two countries continue to make significant progress on Eurofighter Typhoon exports. Accepting Türkiye as a Typhoon user will further strengthen the bonds of friendship developed over decades between key NATO allies and will be a significant step towards enhancing Türkiye's advanced combat air capabilities. This development will mark the beginning of a new era in the UK-Turkey partnership, strengthening capability cooperation and supporting the two countries' defence industries through the mutual purchase of world-leading equipment. The Defence Ministers signed a joint Memorandum of Understanding today. This document strengthens the relationship between the two countries. formalizes this agreement and brings us one step closer to a full-scale agreement on the Typhoon. Both Ministers welcome this signing as a positive step towards Türkiye’s participation in the Eurofighter Typhoon community and share a common goal of finalizing the necessary arrangements as soon as possible. Speaking at the signing ceremony, Minister Güler stated that Turkey and the UK have deep-rooted historical ties and strong relations, saying, “As a manifestation of these ties, we aim to further develop our bilateral relations. Today, we met with the Minister on the occasion of IDEF 2025, the 17th International Defence Industry Fair, and held productive and constructive consultations. During the meeting, where we confirmed the strategic partnership between our countries, we emphasized the importance of our long-standing defense cooperation, including with NATO, and our growing ties in the fields of defense industry and security. Likewise, we committed to deepening our strategic partnership to support our shared deterrent.”
Minister Güler stated his belief that Türkiye's acceptance as a Eurofighter Typhoon user would further strengthen the bonds of friendship between Turkey and the United Kingdom, key NATO allies. He said, "I believe that by enhancing our country's air capabilities, NATO's air power will also increase. This will strengthen our cooperation regarding our capabilities and usher in a new era that will support the defense industries of our two countries through the mutual purchase of world-leading equipment. In this context, the memorandum of understanding signed with my esteemed counterpart brings us one step closer to a full-scale agreement on the Eurofighter Typhoon. I welcome this positive step towards our country's participation in the Eurofighter Typhoon community and would like to reiterate our shared determination to finalize the necessary arrangements as soon as possible. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Minister and extend my greetings to the people of the United Kingdom."
Following their meeting, Minister Güler and UK Defense Minister Healey toured the IDEF-2025 Fair together. Güler briefed his visiting counterpart on the technology products on display.
