The DEM Party's İmralı delegation traveled to İmralı Island yesterday morning to meet with Abdullah Öcalan . The delegation included Parliament Deputy Speaker Pervin Buldan, Mardin MP Mithat Sancar, and Özgür Erol, a lawyer with Asrın Law Firm.
The delegation held its seventh meeting with Abdullah Öcalan while completing its meetings with political parties regarding the establishment of a parliamentary commission following the PKK's symbolic laying down of arms ceremony on July 11.
Meanwhile, Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş sent a letter to political party groups regarding the composition of the parliamentary committee. He requested that the committee include 21 MPs from the AKP, 10 from the CHP, 4 from the DEM Party, 4 from the MHP, 3 from the İYİP, and 3 from the Yeni Yol Party. HUDA PAR, Yeniden Refah, the Turkish Workers' Party (TİP), the Labor Party (EMEP), the Democratic Left Party (DSP), and the Democrat Party (DP), which do not have a parliamentary group, were also asked to contribute one MP each to the committee. The parties will inform the Speaker of the Assembly of the names they will nominate for the committee by July 31st at the latest. İYİP had previously stated that it would not nominate a member.
Therefore, the commission is expected to consist of 48 members. If other parties contribute members, the AKP-MHP alliance will have the majority.
