Need for Speed, one of the long-established gaming series, is preparing to bid farewell to another installment. Electronic Arts announced that the online servers for Need for Speed: Rivals, released in 2013, will be permanently shut down on October 7, 2025.

With this development, Rivals became the seventh Need for Speed game to have its online support terminated.

WILL BE CLOSED ON ALL PLATFORMS

According to EA, the shutdown will apply to all platforms, including PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Starting October 7th, players will no longer be able to access multiplayer modes and other online services. Game pages in digital stores have also been updated with new warnings reflecting this change.

Need for Speed: Rivals was developed in collaboration with Ghost Games (now EA Gothenburg) and Criterion Games. Released in 2013 as the 20th main installment in the series, the game became a standout, especially for newcomers, thanks to its dynamic take on the arcade racing genre.

Despite the technical issues at the time of its release, Rivals received positive reviews and continued to be considered one of the most popular Need for Speed games of the 2010s.
