Manavgat Mayor Niyazi Nefi Kara was detained

The main opposition party , the Republican People's Party ( CHP ), continues its wave of detentions and raids on municipalities.

This time the operation was directed to the CHP Manavget Municipality . An operation was carried out against the Manavgat Municipality within the scope of the investigation launched by the Manavgat Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on allegations of corruption, bribery and unjust benefits.

It was learned that a detention order was issued for Mayor Niyazi Nefi Kara and 35 people within the scope of the operation targeting Manavgat Municipality.

While party members began to gather in front of the municipality building, riot police teams were dispatched to the area where citizens were gathering.

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel said, "Let's see what will happen in Manavgat today. When the situation is like this, they do the greatest harm to justice and this country, and the greatest good to real thieves. Thieves and corrupt people are swarming in."

Number of detained mayors rises to 12

A total of 11 CHP mayors have been arrested so far in the operation targeting the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, which began on March 19. If Manavgat Mayor Niyazi Nefi Kara is also arrested, the number of CHP mayors arrested will rise to 12. Nine of the 11 mayors arrested so far are from Istanbul, and two are from the Seyhan and Ceyhan districts of Adana.
