Magherafelt oust Glen for Derry SFC final spot

Magherafelt denied Glen a fifth straight Derry senior football championship final berth thanks to a resounding 4-15 to 1-14 win in Owenbeg last night.
Conall Higgins struck two first-half goals as Gavin Devlin’s men took in a 2-12 to 0-7 lead and, while Glen got points early in the restart from Alex Doherty, Emmet Bradley (free) and Danny Tallon (free), Conor McCluskey’s goal soon afterwards killed their momentum.
Zach Gavigan crashed in Magherafelt’s fourth goal in injury-time to ice the victory ahead of Doherty raising a consolation green flag for Glen towards the finish.
Into their second county final in three years, Magherafelt now await the winners of today’s other SFC semi-final between holders Newbridge and Slaughtneil (3pm), with the decider set for next Sunday, October 19th at Celtic Park.
