Young Tipp Star Quotes Surprising Stat After Premier Seal Long-Overdue Croke Park Date

Young Tipp Star Quotes Surprising Stat After Premier Seal Long-Overdue Croke Park Date

Saturday's All-Ireland hurling quarterfinals started with a bang and ended with a whimper.

Dublin were incredible in shocking Limerick at Croke Park, and had many neutrals dreaming of a day of real chaos in the usually-pedestrian All-Ireland quarterfinal round.

However, Tipperary buried any hopes of Leinster putting three teams in the quarterfinals with a ruthless victory over a very middling Galway side in Limerick.

It finished 1-28 to 2-17, but strangely the eight point win flattered Galway, who were clearly second best all day.

It was another huge step forward for Liam Cahill's Tipp side, who are a growing force in this Championship and genuine All-Ireland contenders.

This season has been all about righting last year's wrongs. They reached a League final, won a huge game in Ennis and took care of business against Waterford. Today, they beat what was in front of them before huge Tipp support, and now will travel to Croke Park in two weeks time to meet old rivals Kilkenny in what should be a fascinating game.

The support is back. The results are back. You might even say Tipp is back.

Tipperary return to Croker

Incredibly, Tipperary's last game at Croke Park was against the same opposition that they'll meet in the semi-final. It happened place six years ago, in the All-Ireland final. It was the day Tipp won an All-Ireland final, in a match that will be remembered for Richie Hogan's controversial red card.

It's absolutely mind-boggling to think that one of hurling's blue bloods have not played in Croke Park since.

That strange stat was fresh in the mind of young Tipp star Andrew Ormond when was being interviewed after accepting his Player of the Match award.

"It's been a little while since Tipperary have played up in Croke Park, I think, 2019. Which is pretty amazing for all of us. Growing up we were going up there every year. I'm really looking forward to that now"

The 2019 stat was also mentioned by Jason Forde and Liam Cahill in their post-match interviews with RTÉ.

Ormond is one of the crop of U20s stars who've energised the Tipperary panel. His five points from today underlined his growing case to be the 2025 Young Hurler of the Year.

After the match, a beaming Ormond praised the Tipp support for getting behind the team.

"I said the last day as well, the Tipperary supporters, when they like what they see and they see a team working hard, they're the best supporters in the world."

You can imagine that shout of "Tipp! Tipp! Tipp!" will be heard all around Croke Park in two weeks time.
