Why Ghilardi has to cost Roma over 12m to keep Verona happy

Daniele Ghilardi remains a strong target for Roma, but Verona turned down the €9m plus bonus offer because they owe Fiorentina 50 per cent of the fee.
The defender has for days been on the Giallorossi’s radar, with coach Gian Piero Gasperini very appreciative of his talents and eager to further improve the Italy Under-21 international.
An offer was made to Verona, worth €9m plus bonuses, but it was insufficient for a Ghilardi deal.
Ghilardi asking price has to be high
Hellas are asking for at least €11-12m plus add-ons, because they cannot go lower than that or risk being left with very little at the end of the day.
That is because they owe Fiorentina 50 per cent of the sale fee, having agreed that as part of his €380,000 move from the Viola youth academy in 2022.
There could be a way of resolving the issue, if Roma can include youth player Luigi Cherubini as part of the increased proposal.
