As long as Israel attacks, Iran refuses to negotiate.

As long as Israel attacks, Iran refuses to negotiate.

A diplomatic solution to the war between Israel and Iran appears increasingly uncertain. The arch-enemies engaged in renewed attacks overnight. The Israeli army, according to its own statements, launched a series of attacks against missile depots and launch sites in the interior of Iran.

The Iranian government-affiliated online portal "Iran Nuances" reported that an explosion occurred in the central Iranian city of Isfahan, home to an important nuclear research center. Further details were not immediately available.

At least one 16-year-old was killed and two others injured in an Israeli attack on the Iranian city of Qom, Iran Nuances reported. A residential building was hit. Qom is located approximately 50 kilometers north of the Fordow uranium enrichment facility. The facility is considered Israel's most important target in the current war.

US President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that he wants to decide within the next two weeks whether the US, as Israel's most important ally, will intervene in the war. On Friday, he added, "two weeks is the maximum."

Despite growing pressure, Iran, according to Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi, refuses to negotiate as long as Israel's attacks continue. However, Israel's leadership shows no signs of stopping the military campaign in Iran that began a week ago. "We must prepare for a longer operation," said Israel's Chief of Staff Ejal Zamir. "We have begun the most complex operation in our history."

Israel estimates that its attacks in Iran have delayed the Islamic Republic's development of a nuclear bomb by years. "I believe, according to the assessments we're hearing, we have already delayed their ability to acquire a nuclear bomb by at least two or three years," said Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar in an interview with Bild. Israel has achieved a lot, but "will not stop until we have done everything possible to eliminate this threat," Saar said.

Israel's Foreign Minister: Iran is deceiving the world

In another interview with Japanese television station NHK, he said: "We will not allow Iran to become like North Korea. Iran has tried to follow North Korea's path because it believes that its regime's security is guaranteed by nuclear weapons. But we will not allow that to happen in Iran." Asked by NHK whether Israel was willing to accept a diplomatic solution to the conflict with Iran, Saar said: "Personally, I do not believe Iran is seeking a (diplomatic) solution. Iran is trying to deceive the international community."

Trump believes the Europeans' recent mediation efforts are ineffective. "Iran doesn't want to talk to Europe. They want to talk to us. Europe can't help with that," Trump said when asked by a journalist whether the European talks had been helpful. The US is currently in contact with Iran, and we'll see what happens. The foreign ministers of Germany, France, and Great Britain met with their Iranian counterpart, Aragchi, in Geneva on Friday. The Europeans and Tehran want to continue the talks.

Trump: Israel is currently "winning" the war

However, Aragchi emphasized: "As long as Israel's attacks continue, we will not negotiate with either side." Regarding a demand from Tehran for a ceasefire before negotiations, Trump said it would be difficult to demand that of Israel because Israel is currently winning the war. Such a demand would be easier if one side didn't have the upper hand.

Trump said Thursday he wants to give diplomatic efforts about two more weeks before making a decision on a possible US involvement in the war. On his way to his weekend, Trump told reporters Friday at the airport in Morristown, New Jersey, that "two weeks is the maximum."

Iran: We don't know if we can still trust the USA

In a conversation with US broadcaster NBC News in Geneva, Iran's foreign minister expressed doubts that Washington is interested in diplomatic efforts to end the war. Aragchi expressed suspicion that the US was merely using previous negotiations with the Islamic Republic as a cover for Israel's offensive. "They may have had this plan in mind and only needed the negotiations to conceal it," Aragchi said. "We don't know how we can trust them anymore. What they did was, in fact, a betrayal of diplomacy," he said.

New attacks

Shortly before the new Israeli attacks on Iran, Iran, in turn, attacked Israel with rockets, which were apparently intercepted. There were no reports of impacts. According to media reports, debris from an intercepted rocket caused a fire on the roof of a residential building, but there was apparently no damage to the apartments.

The military announced that the population could leave the shelters again. The previous day, according to the emergency services, at least 23 people were injured, three of them seriously, in an Iranian rocket attack on the Israeli Mediterranean city of Haifa.

Germans flown out of Israel

Meanwhile, the Bundeswehr flew German citizens directly out of Israel for the first time since the beginning of the war. Two planes carrying 64 returnees landed overnight at Cologne/Bonn Airport in North Rhine-Westphalia. Due to the war between Israel and Iran, the airspace in both countries is closed to air traffic.
