Braun fills the Brych gap

Braun fills the Brych gap

Robin Braun will be promoted to the Bundesliga referee squad for the 2025/26 season. The 29-year-old lawyer from Wuppertal will replace record referee Felix Brych, who ended his career at the end of the last season after 359 appearances in the top flight. The DFB announced this on Wednesday.

Braun already officiated three Bundesliga matches last season and performed impressively. He officiated in February, among other matches, the match between Bayer Leverkusen and TSG Hoffenheim and was the first referee in German professional football to explain a decision to the spectators via the stadium microphones following a video assistant referee's intervention.

Increase in assistants

The total number of referees in the German top flight remains unchanged at 24. There are changes among the assistant referees: The squad grows from 36 to 38. While Frederick Assmuth, Arno Blos, Guido Kleve, and Marcel Pelgrim are ending their active careers on the field, Tobias Fritsch, Florian Heft, Patrick Kessel, Fabian Maibaum, Asmir Osmanagic, and Tobias Schultes are new to the list. Arne Aarnink is also set to return to the field after recovering from an injury.
