BVB dedicates the anthem to Friedländer, even the Kiel fans react in a special way

Shortly before BVB's home game against Holstein Kiel, a moving scene unfolded in the stadium. Dortmund stadium announcer Norbert Dickel dedicated the anthem to Margot Friedländer, prompting even the away fans to react in a particularly emotional way.

An emotional moment in Dortmund. Before the crucial final Bundesliga home game against Holstein Kiel, the atmosphere in the sunny Westfalenstadion was already high. Around ten minutes before kickoff, the unofficial BVB anthem "You'll Never Walk Alone" usually plays, but this time stadium announcer Norbert Dickel had a few words for the crowd.

"We dedicate this 'You'll Never Walk Alone' to Margot Friedländer ," Dickel began. Immediately, the Holstein fans, dressed all in white, erupted into a standing ovation in the away section. A wonderful gesture, and the entire stadium joined in, applauding during the moving speech for the recently deceased Holocaust survivor.

Friedländer was a lifelong advocate for the culture of remembrance of the Holocaust. She died last week at the age of 103.

As the photo of the "little, big woman" was displayed on the display boards, Dickel concluded his speech by addressing her directly: "We promise you that we will carry your message forward. This YNWA is for you alone."

When the famous football anthem sounds, some Kiel fans hold up their scarves.
