In the context of the final, in which the reigning French champions Paris St. Germain will face Inter Milan, many questions arise regarding the process and the general conditions:
How many times has Munich hosted European finals? The 2025 Champions League final was preceded by four major European finals in the Bavarian capital. Nottingham Forest celebrated one of its greatest club successes, winning the 1979 European Cup against Malmö at Munich's Olympic Stadium.
The final of the first edition of the UEFA Champions League, which was previously known as the European Cup, also took place in Munich's Olympic Stadium in 1993. In this match , Olympique Marseille, led by Rudi Völler, beat AC Milan .
Four years later, in 1997, Borussia Dortmund became the first German team to win the Champions League. The team, led by captain Matthias Sammer, defeated defending champions Juventus Turin 3-1 at the Olympic Stadium .
The most notorious and dramatic final in Munich to date, and also the first at the Allianz Arena, was certainly the "Finale dahoam" in 2012, when FC Bayern Munich hosted Chelsea FC in their own stadium. However, FC Bayern's dream of winning the Champions League in front of their home crowd was shattered, as "The Blues" won 4-3 on penalties despite the Munich team's dominance .
Munich Football Arena instead of Allianz ArenaAllianz is not an official UEFA sponsor, and therefore the name "Allianz-Arena" may not be used during the Champions League final. Thus, FC Bayern Munich's home stadium was renamed "Munich Football Arena" exclusively for the Champions League final. However, this isn't the first time the arena has borne this name; last year, it was also called the "Munich Football Arena" during the European Championship for similar reasons.
The temporary name change isn't the only difference from regular match operations. The capacity of the "Munich Football Arena" will also shrink from 75,000 seats for FC Bayern Munich's home games to 64,500 for the Champions League final. This is because standing room is not permitted in the finals of all European competitions sponsored by UEFA.
Fan zones and public viewingThere will be three large fan zones in Munich for the final. Paris fans can watch the game at the "PSG Fan Meeting Point" on Königsplatz, and the "Inter Fan Zone" will be set up at Odeonsplatz for Italian fans.
Additionally, a fan festival will take place in the Olympic Park during the Champions League final. In addition to an official public viewing on the final day, free sports matches, concerts, and other events will be offered there from Thursday, May 29, to Sunday, June 1.
How much do tickets for the final in Munich cost? The 64,500 tickets for the final were highly sought after and hard to come by. Fans of both finalists are entitled to 18,000 tickets each, a few additional tickets were allocated to sponsors and UEFA partners, and a very small number of tickets went on general sale.
Nevertheless, it's worth taking a look at the prices of the final tickets, which aren't exactly cheap. A ticket in the "Fans First" category, reserved for fans of the finalists, costs €70. Category II tickets cost €180, Category III €650, and Category IV €950.
