Berkan Taz played a major role in this successful season. With two assists and a stunning goal against Osnabrück, the midfielder secured the title of league's top scorer (13 goals/15 assists) – ahead of Dresden's Christoph Daferner, who also finished "only" second in the top scorer rankings. Meanwhile, Fatih Kaya of SV Wehen Wiesbaden secured the kicker award.

Sporting director Sebastian Lange recently spoke to Reviersport about having a "preferred candidate." However, nothing had been signed at that time. Rumors have circulated among others about Eugen Polanski (Borussia Mönchengladbach II) and Oliver Kirch (Borussia Mönchengladbach U19). Ende also came to Verl from Mönchengladbach two years ago.
