A volunteer helping fight the fires in León dies.

A 35-year-old man who was helping to extinguish the fires in León died on Tuesday, according to the regional government representative, Nicanor Sen. He was working in the Nogarejas area, he specified in a message on X.

My deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, who was helping fight the fires in León, in the Nogarejas area. I also want to wish a speedy recovery to those injured in this same operation.

The deceased, along with another person, had donated a brushcutter for use in extinguishing the fire, so he was assigned a task, according to ICAL. Therefore, Juan Carlos Suárez-Quiñones, Minister of the Environment of Castile and León, explained, "A task was assigned to him." However, two flames that unexpectedly converged ended his life.

At this time, no further details are known about the man . Specifically, he was helping to extinguish the fire in Molezuelas de la Carballeda, Zamora, which had spread to the province of León on Tuesday afternoon.

The same fire left another person injured. A 36-year-old man was taken by an Emergency Medical Services ambulance to the León University Hospital.

Firefighters from the Astorga fire station later transported a third person, also injured and with burns, who was in the same area to the La Bañeza health center for treatment.

The day also left several injured in other fires ravaging Castile and León. One person was taken to the León University Hospital, while two others are in the ICU at Zamora Hospital, and another two are in the emergency room, having been injured in the Puercas fire, specifically in the town of Abejera. In addition, between six and eight people sought medical attention in the Tábara area with minor injuries.

In this regard, the Government delegate in Castile and León, Nicanor Sen, specified that three of the injuries occurred while being evacuated by bus from a town in Zamora, while two others had turned around in their vehicle to collect documents left behind at home. "My deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased," Nicanor Sen said. Finally, in the statement, he wished "a speedy recovery" to those injured in that same operation.

King Felipe VI conveyed to the President of the Regional Government of Castile and León, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, "his condolences for the deceased volunteer and his sympathy for all the people during this difficult time." The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the Government Delegate in the Region, Nicanor Sen, also expressed their condolences. The regional leader also "deeply" regretted the death of the volunteer and, in a message on the social network 'X', wished the injured a "speedy recovery."

Fires continue to rage across Spain, especially in the province of Castilla y León, where most of them are concentrated and where thousands of people have had to be evacuated.
