Emilio Novela, director of Talgo and Merlin Properties, dies

Emilio Novela Bartín, an independent director of both Merlin Properties and Talgo , passed away last Friday, May 16, in Madrid, the train manufacturer reported to the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) on Monday.

Talgo has expressed its regret over the passing of Novela Bartín, who until then was a member of the board of directors , coordinating director, and member of the Talgo Audit Committee.

"This is extremely sad news that has caused great consternation among all board members. The board unanimously wishes to emphasize the great human courage and professionalism with which Don Emilio always acted. This is a great loss, both personally and professionally," the company emphasized, offering its sincere condolences to the entire Novela Bartín family and those close to him.

Novela Bartín's professional career reveals a broad and extensive professional career and experience in the real estate sector.

After a stint in the banking sector that began in 1974, between 1999 and 2003 he served as vice president and CEO of Vallehermoso, a real estate company then controlled by Santander.

Novela also served as a board member of Generali, Banco Urquijo, Cortefiel, Larios, Unión Fenosa, Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, and Dixi Media. He was also vice president and board member of Banco Banif.

Until now, he held a seat on the board of Merlin, which was added to the one he held at Talgo.
