Charros de Jalisco falls by walkoff and misses out on a sweep against Durango.

Charros de Jalisco falls by walkoff and misses out on a sweep against Durango.

A home run hit by Randy Romero in the ninth inning denied Charros de Jalisco a chance to secure their third consecutive victory against Caliente de Durango . Despite Benjamín Gil's team starting out winning, the home team overwhelmed the visitors to avoid a sweep at Francisco Villa Stadium, taking a 7-9 victory .

The loss came at the hands of Josh Green, who failed to control the final moments of the game, leaving him with a man on base in Trevor Clifton. Jalisco's star closer also failed to deliver his best pitches tonight, and Romero managed to intercept his pitch to give Caliente the honorable victory.

The Charros' pitching faltered again , as starter Zac Grotz did not have the best performance and in four and a third innings of work he recorded five hits, four runs, three walks and gave up three outs.

Jalisco got off to a promising start with Willie Calhoun hitting a double to drive Mateo Gil into the final. They led by as many as three runs, and Carlos Mendivil and Johneshwy Fargas also contributed with a pair of home runs, but none of that was enough to secure the win and get the ball rolling.

Despite the loss, Jalisco remains in the playoff qualifying zone, largely due to the Saraperos de Saltillo's sweep of Tecos de los Dos Laredos, so Charros will have a chance to secure their postseason berth. This Tuesday, August 5, the Caporales will face Dorados de Chihuahua in their final series of the regular season at 7:30 p.m. at the Pan American Stadium.
