Saraperos vs. Toros: Saltillo looks to redeem itself against Tijuana in a new series.

Saraperos vs. Toros: Saltillo looks to redeem itself against Tijuana in a new series.

After a difficult road trip against the Sultanes de Monterrey and a recent home series loss to the Charros de Jalisco , the Saraperos de Saltillo will face the Toros de Tijuana in what will be a rematch of the preseason duel, where the Nave Verde came out ahead. This time, however, both teams arrive in different conditions.

Saraperos is in ninth place in the Northern Zone standings with a record of 6 wins and 9 losses, tied with Rieleros and only ahead of Caliente de Durango (5-10). In its last series, Saltillo started with an 8-5 victory over the Charros , but could not hold on to the lead and fell in the next two games by scores of 7-3 and 9-4.

In Sunday's game, the Charros took the lead in the first inning with an RBI single by Edwin Díaz . Carlos Mendívil extended the lead with a three-run homer in the second. Drew Devine responded for the Saraperos with a two-run double, and later Keven Lamas and Brandon Villarreal also drove in runs, but it wasn't enough to reverse the score. Jalisco sealed the victory with two more runs in the eighth inning.

Now the Saraperos face an opponent that's coming on strong: the Tijuana Bulls , who arrive with an 8-7 record, sharing third place in the Northern Zone with the Algodoneros and Dorados . The border team is coming off a sweep of the Chihuahua Dorados , including a 3-0 shutout on Sunday in which Jack Mayfield stood out with a two-run home run and Gabriel Noriega with an RBI.

On the mound, Caleb Baragar pitched three scoreless innings for the Bulls in his debut, backed by solid bullpen work, including Jimmy Cordero's fourth save of the season. The win gave the Bulls their fourth consecutive victory.

The match between the Saraperos and Toros kicks off this Tuesday, May 6, at 7:30 p.m. at the Francisco I. Madero Stadium , the first stop on a nine-game road trip for Tijuana . For the Saraperos , this series represents an opportunity to redeem themselves in front of their fans, against an opponent they already dominated in the preseason, but who now comes in strong.

Both teams have different motives for pursuing the series: Saraperos wants to climb the standings and end their losing streak; Toros wants to remain in contention for first place in the group.
