It's not Malaga: Brits finally share their favorite Andalusian city with flights for 18 euros.

It's not Malaga: Brits finally share their favorite Andalusian city with flights for 18 euros.

The online edition of The Sun, the influential British daily, has surprised everyone by revealing that the British people's favorite Andalusian city isn't Malaga, Seville, or Granada, but a little-known gem: Almería . In a recent article titled "YES NOW! Spanish city named the happiest in the country – with sandy beaches, free tapas, and just 29 days of rain a year," the British outlet praised Almería as the happiest city in Spain and one of the most attractive destinations for tourists from the United Kingdom.

According to the 'Spain Happy Index Report,' cited by The Sun, Almería has been recognized for its warm climate, tranquility, and quality of life. The city enjoys an average annual temperature of 17 degrees , with a high of 29°C in summer, and only 29 days of rain per year. It is, in fact, the only city in Europe with a desert climate, thanks to its proximity to the Tabernas Desert.

But what has captivated the British most isn't just the weather: the free tapas with every drink, something unusual in other tourist cities, the low level of overcrowding compared to other areas of the Costa del Sol, and the authentic atmosphere have turned Almería into a secret that is now beginning to be discovered.

Among its main tourist attractions are the Alcazaba of Almería, an imposing 10th-century Arab fortress; the Cathedral of the Incarnation, which also served as a defensive structure against pirate attacks; and the Civil War Shelter Museum, an underground tunnel system that protected more than 35,000 people during the bombings.

Visitors can also discover some of the most iconic sites in the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park , the largest protected area on the Mediterranean coast. From Retamar in the city of Almería to the municipality of Carboneras, a variety of landscapes interspersed with urban centers offer a unique opportunity to explore this unique environment.

For film lovers, this is another plus. Nearby is the Tabernas Desert , where classic westerns such as "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" and "A Fistful of Dollars" were filmed. More than 300 film and TV series shoots have made this natural setting one of the most popular locations for film lovers. Proof of this is the awarding of the title "Treasure of European Film Culture" by the European Film Academy.

And if all this weren't enough, the best part is that getting to Almería is cheap and easy. According to The Sun, there are flights from London Luton to Malaga for just 18 euros, and from there it's just a two-hour drive to Almería.

While cities like Malaga and Granada remain popular tourist destinations, Almería offers an authentic, sunny, and affordable alternative . It's no wonder the British are naming it their new favorite in Andalusia.
