The spectacular palace that hides water features in its gardens and was the setting for 'The Sound of Music'

The Sound of Music (1965) is undoubtedly one of the most important films in the history of cinema. The musical film, starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, remains beloved even 60 years after its Spanish release. Both its songs and the settings featured in the film have remained etched in the memories of cinema lovers.

Much of the film was shot in the city of Salzburg, the fourth most populated city in Austria. Places such as St. Paul's Convent and Mirabell Palace served as settings for the musical, and undoubtedly one of the most striking was the impressive Hellbrunn Palace, located on the outskirts of the city and one of the most majestic buildings in Central Europe. With over four centuries of history, this treasure is a must-see if you're on a getaway to Mozart's birthplace.

Located just five kilometers from Salzburg's historic center , Hellbrunn Palace is one of Austria's best-kept secrets. This majestic building, erected at the beginning of the 17th century, is a treasure that served as a summer residence for princes and archbishops. Built by Swiss architect Santino Solari, this gem follows the canons of the late Renaissance style and amazes all who visit it, especially in the summer.

Its colorful yellow façade already draws the attention of tourists who approach it, who are also amazed by the majesty of the various rooms that make up this beautiful Austrian building. However, this is not a typical palace, because what makes it one of Salzburg's most interesting places is not only its architecture, but the sublime spectacle created by the bucolic gardens that surround it.

The palace is located at the foot of the mountain that gives it its name, which in turn supplies water to the building's fairytale gardens. Throughout the grounds surrounding the mansion, you can admire incredible dreamlike fountains that come to life when turned on and spray water, creating a visual spectacle so magnificent it is comparable only to the Monumental Fountains in the Gardens of the Royal Palace of La Granja de San Ildefonso.

All of this makes Hellbrunn Palace the perfect destination for a day trip outside Salzburg's historic center. In addition to being a reminder of the city's splendor, it also boasts incredible green spaces that are perfect for escaping the constant hustle and bustle of the Austrian city center for a few hours .
