Lyon: An Algerian illegal immigrant suspected of stabbing another illegal immigrant who tried to stop him from stealing from English tourists
The charges against this undocumented Algerian mainly involve foreigners. On May 24, while prowling the slopes of Croix-Rousse, he and two accomplices attacked a group of English tourists to steal a watch. Another illegal immigrant, witnessing the incident, attempted to intervene. In response, he was stabbed by the Algerian.
The latter, identified, had fled to Spain in an attempt to evade the Lyon authorities. But upon returning to the 1st arrondissement this summer, he was arrested this weekend during a check on Rue Pouteau. The thirty-year-old was in possession of a knife and a tear gas canister. He is also accused of stealing a couple's necklace on June 1st on Rue Terme.
