Artificial Intelligence: French firm Mistral AI and UAE fund MGX join forces in a giant data center project

An electrical power of up to 1.4 gigawatts (GW) in 2030, almost as much as the state-of-the-art EPR nuclear power plant in Flamanville (1.6 GW), and an investment of 8.5 billion euros... One of the data center projects announced on Monday, May 19, in Versailles, during the Choose France summit – organized by the Elysée –, which welcomes the leaders of large foreign companies, assumes a form of gigantism: it promises "the largest artificial intelligence [AI] campus in Europe" , thus praises the Elysée press release.
The alliance of partners brought together in a specific joint venture is also unprecedented: it includes the French generative AI start-up Mistral AI, the United Arab Emirates investment fund dedicated to AI MGX, the American world leader in AI processors Nvidia, as well as the construction group Bouygues, the specialist French Sipartech fiber optics, the public investment bank BPI, the electricity players EDF and RTE, and finally the Ecole Polytechnique.
The site, which has not yet been revealed, will be located in the Ile-de-France region . Construction is expected to begin in the second half of 2026, with commissioning expected by 2028.
