Besançon: Europe celebrated in the heart of the city on May 9

May 9th is Europe Day, celebrating the anniversary of Robert Schuman's speech, the founding act of the European Union in 1950. This date also marks the anniversary of the creation of the House of Europe, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Two great opportunities to liven up the Loop with a treasure hunt to better discover the institution of the Old Continent.
This Friday, May 9, Besançon, like many cities across the continent, celebrated Europe Day. A date that comes around every year and is far from being a coincidence, as it celebrates the anniversary of Robert Schuman's declaration, "a very important speech delivered in 1950 as French Minister of Foreign Affairs," as Julien Pea, director of the Maison de l'Europe in Bourgogne Franche-Comté, recalls.
To mark the 75th anniversary of this founding act, as well as the 25th anniversary of the creation of the Maison de l'Europe, the institution wanted to make a lasting impression by organizing a European stroll through the streets of the Boucle.
