Last year's French tennis champion in the 13-14 age category, Charles Rossillol, was awarded the "Var Sports Trophy" on Wednesday. The ceremony took place at the Sainte-Maxime club. This award is presented by the Development Committee of the Var Departmental Olympic and Sports Committee (CDOS).
Several members of the CDOS traveled especially for the trophy presentation, which took place in the presence of the president of the Var tennis committee, Alain Villaume. He was joined by Mayor Vincent Morisse, accompanied by sports representative Jérémie Legoupil and departmental councilor Véronique Lenoir.
Charles said he was very honored by this distinction. "It's always a pleasure, and I thank the CDOS." The young tennis player (15 years old) unfortunately had a complicated season. "I was injured for six months, from October to April, due to a stress fracture in my wrist and an abdominal injury. This period of unavailability was not easy to live through. Everything is fine today, and I will play my first tournament in Saint-Raphaël on Monday."
Supervised by the national centerUnfortunately, he has very little chance of participating in the French 15/16-year-old championship scheduled for next month. "I've dropped down the rankings (3/6 instead of 2/6). We've applied for a wild card (invitation) but I don't really believe it," adds Charles, who spent a week at Roland-Garros as part of a training camp at the National Training Center (CNE), supervised by former Croatian player Ivan Ljubicic, now the high-level director at the French Tennis Federation. "My goal is to join the CNE in September 2026, and I'll do everything I can to achieve that."
In the meantime, Charles Rossillol is training every day in Sainte-Maxime with Philippe Pech, his new coach, and is preparing for a season that will be much more exciting than the one he has just experienced!
