This represents a radical paradigm shift for French football. After years of crisis surrounding television rights to the game, the Professional Football League (LFP) has decided to create its own channel to broadcast the French championship. Its name will be Ligue 1+, its promoters announced during a press presentation on Thursday, July 10, in Paris.

"Ligue 1 is a very good brand, it was essential, and 'plus' is now a generic term for all platforms," explained Nicolas de Tavernost, director of LFP Media, the commercial subsidiary of the League, during this meeting, in the presence of the president of the French Football Federation (FFF), Philippe Diallo , that of the LFP, Vincent Labrune , and several club directors, including Joseph Oughourlian (Lens), Jean-Pierre Rivère (Nice) and the duo Pierre Ferracci and Antoine Arnault (Paris FC).

Contrary to the initial stated objective, this channel will not broadcast 100% of the French first division championship, but will instead broadcast eight live matches out of the nine played each weekend. The Saturday match at 5 p.m. will remain, at least during the 2025-2026 season, broadcast by the Qatari channel BeIN Sports (in exchange for €78.5 million annually). This match will be broadcast on a delayed basis on the new LFP platform, which will begin broadcasting Ligue 1 matches from the resumption of the season on August 15. Two major magazine programs, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, will also be on the Ligue 1+ schedule.
