Women's Euro 2025: France-Netherlands, scheduled for TF1 then TMC, finally broadcast by France 2
The French national team players have been heard. "In order to provide the best possible exposure," the TF1 group and France Télévisions have just signed a sublicense agreement so that France 2 can broadcast the final group match of the French team, against the Netherlands, at the Women's Euro 2025, on Sunday, July 13.
Originally scheduled for TF1, the match was relegated to TMC to make way for the Men's Club World Cup final between PSG and Chelsea. The match against the Netherlands, scheduled for 9 p.m. in Basel, Switzerland, will take place at the exact same time as the final between the two European clubs, played at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, USA, more than 6,000 kilometers away.
The French team deplored this decision. "There's a bit of disappointment. We're unlucky, our three group matches were played during the Club World Cup. Obviously a bit disappointed, but that's still PSG. Between a final and a group match, TF1 chose a final," reacted French midfielder Oriane Jean-François at a press conference on July 10.
Philippe Diallo: “the richness of our football”"We are disappointed, we would have liked to have had greater visibility, but we are still broadcast on a free-to-air channel, which is good too," said striker Kadidiatou Diani, before France Télévisions' announcement.
Asked by Franceinfo about this choice of broadcast, the president of the French Football Federation (FFF), Philippe Diallo, preferred to see it as a reflection of "the richness of our football" and its good performances.
In France, the Club World Cup matches were broadcast for free by the British platform DAZN, subject to registration. However, TF1 had acquired the rights to two of them: PSG's opening match on June 15 against Atlético Madrid (4-0), and the final on July 13. The first match attracted 3.8 million viewers.
Luis Enrique's Parisians are aiming for victory in the Club World Cup and an unprecedented five-peat this season, having already won the Champions League, Ligue 1, the Coupe de France and the Trophée des Champions.
For their part, the French team crushed Wales (4-1) on July 9, allowing France 2 to beat the other channels with nearly 2.9 million viewers. Their inaugural victory against England, the reigning champions, had already attracted 2.8 million people on TF1. A draw against the Netherlands will now be enough for them to finish top of their group.
