Bonaguil-Fumel Festival: “The Voyage of Monsieur Perrichon,” a revisited classic

The French playwright is famous for his light comedies and vaudevilles that depict the failings and absurdities of the 19th-century bourgeoisie. This Monday evening's comedy is no exception, except that the plot moves away from the salons to a train en route to Chamonix, where a vain father confronts two young men who want to marry his daughter.
Director Frédérique Lazarini has worked with a loyal cast for years and is known for her exacting approach. She has adapted this classic, as biting as it is irresistible, without ever betraying it, "with a lively, cheerful, cartoonish side by adding video and songs," promises Frédéric Bernhard. The combined talents of the playwright, director, and cast make this performance "a bubble of insolence and gaiety," according to the Télérama critic.
