Fewer people than Santorini and a room for 50 euros: this destination offers miles of beaches at low prices.

Fewer people than Santorini and a room for 50 euros: this destination offers miles of beaches at low prices.

This small, yet still unknown Greek town rivals the most beautiful islands by offering heavenly beaches and affordable accommodation. A spot to discover this summer for a sunny vacation without breaking the bank.

If someone says "holidays in Greece," chances are you'll think of Athens, Santorini, Mykonos, Crete, Naxos, or the small islands of the Cyclades. While Greece is best known for its paradise islands, here's a lesser-known destination that's nonetheless worth a visit.

To do this, you'll need to head to the west coast of mainland Greece, opposite the island of Corfu. With its colorful alleyways, lively little port, and Venetian citadel overlooking the Ionian Sea, the small town has the air of a postcard. Lovers of relaxation will be delighted by the many heavenly beaches nearby, often less crowded than those on Greece's star islands. From secret coves to vast stretches of fine sand, there's something for everyone!

The most famous is undoubtedly Valtos, a huge 3 km beach equipped for free with umbrellas and deckchairs. Sports enthusiasts will prefer Lichnos and its plunging cliffs or the more renowned Sarakiniko nearby and its crystal-clear waters. The shape of the coast gives it a peaceful feel with shallow turquoise waters, white pebbles and a small hill populated by pine trees. Over the years, it has become a very popular spot and is best visited in the morning to enjoy a peaceful swim. For those who love quieter spots, head to the small coves of Alonaki Fanariou or Piso Kryoneri, unspoiled spots that feel like the end of the world.

This little slice of paradise is Parga, and its other asset will interest more than one tourist: its excellent value for money compared to the posh Greek islands! According to local experts, you can find accommodations on Airbnb for as little as 50 euros per night, far from the frenzy and prohibitive prices of Santorini or Mykonos in high season. We actually tested it out and found a double room in the middle of summer for a full week for 70 euros per night. The same goes for dining: the local tavernas and restaurants serve simple but tasty cuisine based on fresh fish, often for a very reasonable bill.

Easily accessible from Preveza Airport, just an hour's drive away, Parga offers a taste of the Greek islands without spending hours on a ferry. Its peaceful atmosphere makes it an ideal destination for a budget-friendly getaway. If you're dreaming of Caribbean-style beaches and picturesque villages without breaking the bank, Parga could be a great option for your next Greek vacation!
