Video: Microsoft announces a new Xbox console, with access to multiple online stores

Since its launch in 2002, the Xbox has sold just under 200 million units, including around 30 million for the latest generation, the Xbox Series S and Series X, which arrived in November 2020. As part of its agreement with AMD, Microsoft will also develop a digital platform for online gaming using remote computing ("cloud").
The new feature is that it will be layered on top of Windows, Microsoft's popular operating system. This means Xbox users will be able to access other game stores outside of Microsoft. "It's about building a gaming platform that goes with you everywhere," explained Sarah Bond, "so you can play the games you want, wherever you want." Building the platform into Windows allows players to migrate beyond the console to other platforms, such as PCs.
