Almasri, opposition leaders call on Nordio to appear in Parliament: he lied. PD, M5S, and AVS should resign.

Rome, July 9 (askanews) – Justice Minister Carlo Nordio must appear in the Senate chamber for an urgent briefing on the Almasri case. The request came from the opposition, united during the Senate floor group leaders' meeting. This is a "joint request from all the opposition," clarified Democratic Senators President Francesco Boccia, along with the group leaders of the Five Star Movement, Avs, and Iv, Stefano Patuanelli, Peppe de Cristofaro, and Raffaella Paita (Iv).
The Democratic Party, Five Star Movement, and the Italian Socialist Party (AVS) in particular are attacking the minister for "liing to Parliament" and calling on him to "resign." The fact that he lied is indisputable from what has emerged, Patuanelli emphasized, since Nordio had claimed to have "been aware of the incident on the 20th," yet from the previous day he could have intervened to validate the arrest. A serious person should resign immediately. Luca Ciriani, Minister for Relations with Parliament, responded that he would pass the request on to Minister Nordio.
A question time with the minister is scheduled for tomorrow, but the opposition believes this is not the right time to respond to such a "serious" matter. The request was therefore to "enhance the information flow by stopping after question time or give us an alternative day."
What if Nordio doesn't provide a timely response? "It's clear that if we don't receive a response by question time, we won't be here discussing the sex of angels," Patuanelli said.
For Avs group leader Peppe de Cristofaro, this is a "sensational affair and cannot be resolved in the two minutes of question time. In the history of our Republic, ministers have resigned for infinitely less serious reasons. It seems incredible that Nordio would lie to Parliament. I already told Minister Nordio this morning in a statement that he should resign, but a press release isn't enough for me. I want to tell him here, and I want to say it in front of him, and above all, I want to say it in front of the country, and I want to know what he says to the country: if he admits to having told a lie, why? Because clearly there are unspeakable issues behind it. We are faced with a major incident that deserves full investigation." (continued)
