Maiori, credit reopens: UniCredit invests in the South to combat banking desertification.

Maiori, credit reopens: UniCredit invests in the South to combat banking desertification.

At a time when many branches are closing, some are choosing to open. In Maiori , in the heart of the Amalfi Coast , UniCredit is opening a new branch: a local hub designed to listen, guide, and support local families, businesses, and professionals. Not just a reopening, but a gesture that restores the centrality of a local area, and it does so through a bank that chooses to stay, invest, and build the future.

" The new opening of the Maiori branch is a tangible sign of UniCredit's strategy, which places the network, customers, and people at the center, " said Remo Taricani , Deputy Head of Italy at UniCredit. "We have already modernized 80% of our branches in Campania—this figure is now 90%—with a €200 million investment in 2024 alone and over 2,000 new hires. Faced with the challenge of banking desertification, UniCredit's response is to invest in people ."

" This is a great achievement for the community: providing businesses and families with a diverse offering is always a step forward . Today, Maiori can celebrate an important milestone. The city has evolved in recent years, starting with its waterfront and its Dolce Vita beaches, and efforts are underway to improve the lives of families with new construction. Therefore, all support for entrepreneurship is conducive to community development, " declared Maiori Mayor Antonio Capone .

The Maiori branch joins the recently opened one in Capri and is part of a broader strategic plan: to bring the bank back to areas of high economic and social vitality, particularly in the South, offering accessible and technologically advanced spaces, but above all a service focused on relationships, credit, and consulting.

The model adopted by UniCredit for its new openings combines open, flexible environments with personalized assistance: fewer branches, more attentive service. This formula is designed to bring citizens closer to the bank, not the other way around, enhancing the role of people and local knowledge.

In Southern Italy, where the depletion of financial services is a growing problem, the opening of Maiori represents a counter-current choice, a concrete move that restores confidence and vision. UniCredit is doing so with the strength of numbers: €200 million invested, 2,000 new hires, a physical network that is once again becoming a development infrastructure.

Present were Giancarlo Del Mese, director of the new Maiori office, Annalisa Areni (Head of Client Strategist), Marianna Plafoni (Head of Retail Italy), Ferdinando Natali (Regional Manager South), Laura Rizzola (Head of Retail South), Francesco Boccellari (Head of Corporate South), Andrea Moggi (Head of Private South), Sergio Sabuzi (Head of P&C South) and Ilaria Maria Dalla Riva , Chief Operating Officer and Head of People and Culture for Italy.
