Bluesky Updates Guidelines, ToS, and Policies

Two years after its launch, Bluesky has decided to update all the rules governing the social network to comply with European, US, and UK laws. Users will find new guidelines and terms of service (ToS). The company, led by Jay Graber, has also updated its privacy and copyright policies. These are accessible from the support page .
News to comply with the lawsBluesky explains that the changes were made based on feedback received and the implementation of some recent laws, such as the Digital Services Act in Europe. The new guidelines are still in draft form because the Seattle-based company wants to ask for further comments from users until August 28th. They will go into effect on October 15th .
The updated guidelines are now based on four principles: safety, respect for others, authenticity, and compliance. Specifically, the categories for dangerous content have been clarified to comply with the Digital Services Act (Europe), the Online Safety Act (UK), and the TAKE IT DOWN Act (US). The moderation logic and appeals process have also been clarified.
The new terms of service address age verification (mandatory in the UK ), moderation, illegal content, complaints, and appeals. They will come into effect on September 15 .
The new privacy policy clarifies user rights under European and UK law. It also adds information on data transfers outside of Europe and the UK, as well as retention and deletion. It will take effect on September 15 .
