Zelensky Presses: 'We Still Await a Response from the US on Air Defense'

Ukraine is still waiting for a response from the United States to its offer to purchase air defense systems from them , Volodymyr Zelensky said in his evening speech. "We are working to strengthen Ukraine's air defense. We really need positive signals from the United States of America, specific signals on air defense. We are still waiting for a response to the offer to purchase systems that can help. Concrete signals, not words," noted the Ukrainian president, who at the end of April said that Ukraine would try to reach an agreement to purchase Patriot anti-missile systems from the United States. Zelensky then thanked the European countries: "We need to achieve results in the joint production of air defense systems and missiles for them. This is absolutely necessary for the whole of Europe," the president stressed.

The Russian air defense system shot down nine Ukrainian drones heading to the Moscow region overnight. The mayor of the Russian capital, Sergey Sobyanin, reported it in several posts on Telegram, explaining that all the aircraft were intercepted.

The preliminary death toll from Russian attacks on the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, the country's second largest, has risen to at least two people.
