Silent Film Days, the retrospective is dedicated to Charlie Chaplin

Around 200 titles, including shorts and features, will arrive from national and international film libraries for the 44th edition of the Giornate del Cinema Muto, which will take place from 4 to 11 October at the Teatro Verdi in Pordenone: thirteen sections, including special events, for dozens of films that will be shown on the screen every day, from early morning until late at night, all accompanied by live music from the best specialized musicians. As Jay Weissberg, who is directing the Giornate for the tenth year, points out, “the program intends to offer the international community of cinephiles gathered in Pordenone and all spectators a sort of cinematic therapy, thanks also to the high number of comedies, to try, despite what is happening in the world, to find solidarity, smiling, in sharing our humanity.” The musical event that will officially open the festival on Saturday 4 October is Cyrano de Bergerac (1923) by Augusto Genina. Thanks to the superb restoration by FPA Classics of Paris, in a world premiere in Pordenone, it will be possible to appreciate its entire chromatic range as it was a century ago. The American composer Kurt Kuenne has revised and reworked his previous score for the film, which will be performed in a premiere at the festival by the Pordenone Chamber Orchestra conducted by Ben Palmer.
Protagonist of the pre-opening event, on October 3rd at the Zancanaro in Sacile with the masterpiece The Cameraman (1928) accompanied by the Zerorchestra, Buster Keaton will close the festival at the Teatro Verdi on the evening of Saturday October 11th and in the afternoon repeat on Sunday October 12th with Our Hospitality, his second feature film,
