Milan Green Week kicks off with over 200 events across the city.

From September 18th to 21st, Milan Green Week returns, an event that, with over 200 events spread across the city and open to the public, showcases not only the commitment of the Administration but also of the citizens, associations, and organizations that work every day to make Milan attentive to environmental issues, to the care of greenery, and to the fight against and mitigation of climate change.
The event opened this morning at 10:00 a.m. in the Civic Aquarium's conference room with the conference " Towards the Green and Landscape Plan ." The conference focused on the process initiated by the Department of Green and the Environment to develop the plan, a strategic tool for protecting and enhancing the city's green areas, urban landscape, and open spaces, including its water system and ecological, pedestrian, and bicycle connections. In addition to presenting the objectives and working method, the event also provided an opportunity to engage and discuss with representatives from other Italian cities (Brescia, Turin, Florence, and Trento) and with local experts and stakeholders. The event focused on leveraging experiences and expertise, and thus developing a shared plan capable of meeting the city's needs and improving the quality of the environment and people's lives.
On September 19th, trees and tree populations will be the focus of the conference " Urban Forests and Climate Risks: Strategies for Effective and Practical Management ," organized by ANCI – National Association of Italian Municipalities, in collaboration with the Italian Association of Public Garden Directors and Technicians, and with the support of the City of Milan (Palazzina Appiani from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm, reservations required). The event will focus on the management of urban tree populations, with in-depth discussions on guidelines, best practices, risk prevention related to climate change, which is increasingly impacting our cities, and the use of innovative technologies, such as the "Digital Twin," recently implemented by the Administration on over 30,000 city trees.
Closing out the day on September 19th at 9:00 p.m. will be this year's new addition, the evening theater show "Ilva Football Club" by Usine Baug and Fratelli Maniglio , produced by Campo Teatrale. In conjunction with Milan Green Week, the performance (free and open to all) will be performed on the stage of the Teatro Burri in Sempione Park. With this show, the Department of Environment and Green Space invites the audience to reflect on the relationship between the environment, work, and health through the history of Europe's largest steelworks, intertwined with the legend of a small team born right beneath the Ilva smokestacks.
The environment, and energy in particular, will be the focus of the meeting dedicated to Energy Communities, " Sharing Energy in Milan " (11:30 a.m., at the Politecnico di Milano, Piazza Leonardo da Vinci 32). The meeting is organized in collaboration with the Politecnico di Milano, a partner of the Administration in the Energy Community "CER.ca.MI Solidale," which also includes other local solidarity organizations such as Abitare Società Cooperativa, Cooperativa Diapason, and Terzo Paesaggio. CER.ca.MI Solidale operates in the Milan area with the aim of promoting the production and sharing of renewable energy. The event, aimed at citizens, local associations, condominium administrators, and SMEs, will offer an opportunity to learn not only about Milan's new energy community and how to join, but also to participate in meetings and workshops open to all, discover how to save energy, self-produce it, and share it intelligently, and understand how each of us can actively and consciously contribute to the ecological transition.
There will also be space for animals during Milan Green Week: on September 20th , starting at 10 am, Open Day at the Parco Rifugio Canile-Gattile in via Aquila , a day of meetings and activities with guided tours to get to know the guests of the facility and the daily work of volunteers.
Milan Green Week will conclude on Sunday, September 21st with 'No Parking Day' : seven iconic streets in seven of the city's boroughs will be closed to traffic to make way for workshops, street performances, presentations, sports activities, readings, and more. The streets involved in 'No Parking Day' 2025 are: via Arquà (borough 2), viale Lombardia (borough 3), via Einstein (borough 4), via Cuore Immacolato (borough 5), via Tolstoy (borough 6), via Marghera (borough 7), and via Viscontini (borough 8).
"This year too, together with many citizens and associations, we have created a rich and varied program for Milan Green Week," commented Elena Grandi, Councilor for Green and Environment. "A four-day event in which we want to showcase not only the Administration's commitment, for example with regard to the Green Plan, but above all the city's awareness and collective effort towards environmental issues, towards greenery and the landscape, and towards the ambitious energy transition we are called upon to undertake. The many grassroots events demonstrate that the primary actors and protagonists of change are the citizens themselves—all of us. This is why I wholeheartedly support this event model: supporting, promoting, and incentivizing widespread events like these means investing not only in protecting the city's greenery and environment, but also in the growth of a more responsible, supportive, and aware community."
