Railways, RFI allocates €733 million for network maintenance and renewal.

MILAN – Italy's tracks are being renovated. Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (FS Italiane Group) has awarded a tender via a Framework Agreement worth over €733 million for the implementation of a program of maintenance and renewal interventions for railway signaling command and control systems. The contract is part of RFI's broader investment plan to upgrade the network through actions aimed at ensuring greater infrastructure reliability and smoother traffic. As specified in a press release, the Framework Agreement has a term of three years. The tender, divided into 38 lots, will maximize the coverage of the interventions throughout the country. The activities will consist of interventions to restore systems and equipment following malfunctions, mostly due to damage, weather events, or vandalism.
The Agreement includes preparatory activities for the railway yards, functional to the accelerated ERTMS plan, as well as the technological upgrade of the network's signalling systems for train spacing, as well as the renewal of control devices, cabins and level crossings.
