Florence, June 18, 2025 – A new political formation of lay people who refer to the social doctrine of the Church. The goal? "A just and supportive society", which puts back at the center something that has been lost, the "human dignity" of each and every one, overwhelmed by the multiple demands of everyday life as well as by a certain disconnection in concrete behaviors between ideas and real political practice. This new party, 'Freedom and Democracy', of Catholic orientation, is making its way in Italian cities through assemblies and discussions and on Thursday June 19 it will be presented in Florence, at 7 pm, in Piazza della Madonna delle Neve, at the restaurant 'Le carceri', with entrance from via dell'Agnolo. The work will be moderated by Rosanna Purificato, of the national political direction. Then the speeches by Salvatore Corrado, coordinator of Led in Florence and in the territory of the metropolitan city; Luca Guadagnucci, regional coordinator; Cheti Cafissi, national manager of Women of Led; and Giancarlo Affatato, who is president and national coordinator of Led. "It all started with a meeting with Monsignor Gianni Fusco, a professor at Lumsa University and national ecclesiastical assistant for UCID," explains Affatato. "Together we created a laboratory called Forum, which has transformed into a real party, with the aim of bringing voters who don't vote back to the polls. We want to create a popular movement that takes care of people's needs, and in particular, the most vulnerable."

Building on his experience with the “Futuro Italia” Association, Giancarlo Affatato has worked in recent months to bring together many people around the project: “We have organized events in various Italian cities, with decidedly positive feedback and participation. The idea is to provide answers to the real problems that affect thousands and thousands of families on a daily basis (management of long-term elderly patients, disabled people, the world of young people, job insecurity, prison management, for example). The goal is to communicate “our issues to young people, the elderly, women, far from politics, and bring them closer to it so that they can choose the government that our country deserves”. It is about putting a compass at the center for health, work, social, education and the environment. From the Tuscan organizational chart of Led are Andrea Nencini, coordinator of Prato and the province; Luca Cipriani, Pistoia; Barbara Caruso, Grosseto; Michele Commare, Siena; Massimo Giorgetti, Pisa; Raffaele Turturro, head of the organizational secretariat for the Tuscany region.
