Arezzo, 11 August 2025 – Agrivoltaics: Cortona PD collects signatures for a fair energy transition and protection of the territory
The Cortona Democrats have launched a petition to clarify the national and regional situation regarding photovoltaic and agrivoltaic systems. The goal is to provide concrete support to the Cortona municipal administration in protecting the landscape and protecting its citizens. "We are aware of the urgency of combating the climate crisis and the need to increase energy production from renewable sources," says group leader Vanessa Bigliazzi, "but the energy transition must be undertaken with fairness, respect for the local area, and democratic participation. Indeed, the landscape is not only an aesthetic asset, but also an economic asset and a key element of identity, especially in Tuscany. " "Current national legislation has gaps and does not adequately protect the landscape. The proposed regional law, which limits the areas suitable for new systems to 30%, compared to the 70% required by national legislation, represents a step forward, but it is not enough," says Cortona Democratic Party secretary Diego Angori. "We need a national law that gives municipalities a binding decision-making role." The Democratic Party of Cortona supports solar energy, but calls for the project to begin with rooftops, warehouses, abandoned areas, and uncultivable land, avoiding the use of valuable agricultural land. The petition—which will be held at the PD Festival in Chianacce (until August 17) and at the one in Tavarnelle (August 23-31)—calls for: a binding voice for municipalities in the evaluation of photovoltaic and agrivoltaic system projects; participatory processes with citizens and local communities; a review of national legislation; and positive economic and social impacts for Cortona and its citizens, avoiding benefits only for external operators. The petition is addressed to the Mayor of Cortona, with a commitment to act as a spokesperson with the government and the relevant Ministry, to defend and enhance the landscape, agriculture, and identity of our territory. The energy transition is a challenge we must face together, with respect for the land that nourishes us and with the involvement of those who live there every day.
