Pescara, voting in 27 sections on August 24th and 25th

Pescara, voting in 27 sections on August 24th and 25th

In Pescara, people will go back to the polls in the middle of summer, on Sunday 24 and Monday 25 August. Voting will take place on the basis of the TAR ruling that annulled the outcome of the 2024 election and ordered new elections in only 27 of the 170 city sections, i.e. those where the most serious critical issues emerged. The Prefect of Pescara has signed the relevant provision.

The sections affected are: 2, 25, 28, 31, 42, 43, 44, 45, 46, 47, 51, 55, 57, 71, 73, 74, 78, 89, 90, 95, 117, 137, 140, 145, 157, 166 and 169.

The Abruzzo Regional Administrative Court, partially accepting the appeal against the results of the June 2024 elections, ordered the "annulment of the votes and the results of the electoral procedure, with the annulment of the acts of proclamation of the elected candidates for Mayor and Municipal Councilors and of nomination", establishing at the same time the "obligation to repeat the electoral procedure" for 27 sections, i.e. those in which the most serious irregularities emerged.

In the provision, the judges speak of "defects that transcend merely formal aspects" and of "numerous irregularities", to the point that "the aim of providing a sufficient degree of certainty regarding the authenticity, reliability and genuineness of the operations and the electoral result was not achieved". The TAR, among other things, forwarded the documents to the Public Prosecutor's Office to assess the existence of hypotheses of crime.

In the 2024 elections, Carlo Masci became mayor in the first round with 51% for the center-right. While Carlo Costantini , leading the center-left coalition, had recorded 34.2%.
