Third term: Salvini, 'for Fi ius scholae in exchange? No, we are not at the market'

Matthew Salvini
''When Forza Italia asks for easy citizenship in exchange, the ius scholae... what are we talking about! If Forza Italia says in exchange for the third mandate I want this and that, I say we are not at the market''. This was said by the leader of the League and deputy prime minister Matteo Salvini to reporters who asked him if there were still glimmers of hope for a third mandate, on the sidelines of a League initiative on the security decree in Largo Argentina, in Rome.
''There has just been a referendum in which millions of Italians, even left-wingers, said no: the citizenship law is untouchable. In my opinion, we should be even more severe: take away citizenship or residence permits from those who commit crimes in Italy.''
For Salvini, "the third term gives a citizen the chance to choose a good mayor or a good governor. In my opinion, it's a shame that Forza Italia isn't there, but I can't force someone to do something against their will. I certainly won't change the citizenship law, which is something that Italians don't want."
